Have you ever thought about what a great privilege we, as God's children, have? We are invited to come boldly to the throne of grace. To obtain God's forgiveness of sins in the Old Testament, a priest had to make atonement for the people.
Leviticus 16:30-34 ~ For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the Lord. It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statue for ever. And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest's office in his father's stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments: And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation. And this shall be an everlasting statue unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the Lord commanded Moses.
Hebrews 9:6 ~ Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people.
So once a year, the high priest went into the holiest place of the tabernacle, but not without blood. For remember, without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. And that high priest, the mediator between the people and God, offered the blood as an atonement for his sins and for all the sins of the people.
Hebrews 9:11-14 - But Christ being come a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building, Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctified have to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Hebrews 9:28 ~ So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many;...
Hebrews 5:14-16 ~ Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Now we don't have to have an earthly priest making intercession to God on our behalf for mercy and salvation. Jesus was offered once for all as the perfect sacrifice, and now sits at the right hand of God interceding for you. What a wonderful thought it is that anyone can come to Jesus and receive forgiveness for sins and eternal life!
Hebrews 5:4-5:8-9 ~ So also Christ glorified not himself to be made a high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee." "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

One of my favorite knowings of Jesus... He is able to empathize with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15)
