South Florida and Martin County Fair Pig Auction // Update on Thunder

Hello!

Well, the fairs have ended and both pigs are gone. The South Florida fair was January 17th-20th, and Stormy sold for $4.00 a pound. I didn't take many pictures there, but here are a few.
Sarah drew this sign for Stormy's cage.

These first three pictures are of Thunder's last day at home before he left for the county fair.

The chickens really liked to hang out with the pigs.

Now here are pictures from the county fair week (2/12 - 2/17).
This piggy weighed the most...350 pounds! Thunder weighed 305 lbs. but the buyers only had to pay up to 280 lbs.

Here's Thunder after being auctioned. He sold for $11.50 a pound! You can imagine how excited we all were for Deborah, but it was very sad to say goodbye. We miss both him and Stormy.
The goats were fun to watch. Some of them just laid in their pens...

 some slept....

some tried to take the other goat's food....

and some tried to get out by chewing the wood or climbing on the gate. :)

Deborah also entered one of our chickens in the fair. She won reserved grand champion!

 Here's the grand champion chicken.

Have you been to a fair before?

  1. WOW, some cool pictures of all the critters. One of my daughter's friend raises animals and gets them ready for fair in our county. I am amazed at how much money those hogs can bring in. That chicken is a beauty too. She is strutting her stuff cause she is the champion. LOL! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

    1. Thank you, and thanks for stopping by. :) The county fair hogs bring in more money than the south Florida fair hogs do. I think part of the reason is that our county fair has so many sponsors...plus, Deborah and Thunder were the last ones to show and auction, and the last ones usually raise a little more because people feel bad for them. :)
Hehehe. We were actually quite surprised she won.

      Hugs!

  4. Aww...I know it was sad to say good-bye to your sweet friends! I get so attached to things, I am afraid they would become pets, and I could never let them go! Thank you for sharing about your experiences. God bless you and your family!

    1. We get so attached to things as well...especially animals. And sweet Debbie is a huge animal lover. I think she gets most attached. Once when someone killed a couple of our roosters for us, Lauren and Deborah were so sad they couldn't even eat the meat, even after a few months. Those pigs are actually so sweet. And they are pretty amazing animals. Such fun to watch them play and grow. :)

      God bless you, sweet friend!

  5. My kids did 4H all the way up until they went off to college, and it was always such an amazing experience in every way! They mostly did 4H with horse, but we had friends who raised goats. It was always sad to say goodbye to them after working so hard to raise them, but it is a fact of life. Such lovely pictures you took, and both your sweet Stormy and hen were beautiful creatures! It is a blessing to be part of such a great program like 4H :) Hugs to you today sweet friend!
