Is God your Rock?

This morning in Sunday school, our pastor preached an awesome message taken from Deuteronomy 32, a song that Moses sang. I'm going to list a bunch of verses, and they all have something in common.
Verse 4- "He is the Rock..."
Verse 13-  "...and he made him to suck honey out of the rock..."
Verse 15 "...then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation."
Verse 18- "Of the Rock..."
Verse 30- "...except their Rock had sold them..."
Verse 31- "For their rock is not as our Rock..."
Over 7 times, Rock is mentioned in this song of Moses. No where in Genesis do you find the word rock mentioned anywhere. That's because, the children of Israel were slaves in Egypt (in Genesis) and all they saw around them was sand. It's not until you get to Exodus when you start seeing the word rock.
Deuteronomy 32 talks about 4 different rocks.

1. The Rock of perfection.    verse 4: "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he."

2. A Rock of provision. verse 15- "But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxed fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

3. A Rock of protection. verse 30- "How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?"
You're not going to be able to get through the seas of life, especially when the storms come, unless you're standing upon a rock. Not just any rock- a solid rock.
Here are some songs that talk about Jesus being our solid Rock.
"The wise man built his house upon a rock. The wise man built his house upon a rock. The wise man built his house upon a rock, and the rains came tumbling down. The rains came down as the floods came up. The rains came down as the floods came up. The rains came down as the floods came up, and the house on the rock stood firm.
The foolish man built his house upon the sand. The foolish man built his house upon the sand. The foolish man built his house upon the sand, and the rains came tumbling down. The rains came down as the floods came up. The rains came down as the floods came up. The rains came down as the floods came up, and the house on the sand fell flat."

" Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save from wrath and make me pure."

 "My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand."

4. A Rock of permanence. verse 37-40 "And he shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted,  Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you, and be your protection. See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever." You might say, why is he holding his hand up to heaven? Because there is no greater than God swearing by himself, because He does not change. God is always the same, no matter what. Praise the Lord for that!! There's a song that I just thought of that goes along with what I'm talking about. "Yesterday, Today, Forever." Here's the chorus:
 "Yesterday, today, and forever- Jesus is the same. All may change, but Jesus never, glory to His name. Glory to His name! Glory to His name! All may change but Jesus never- Glory to His name!!"

If you start at Genesis, an start at Revelation, and go word by word, verse by verse, you will find that the middle verse in the Bible is: Psalms 188:8 "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man."  That verse is so true. There is no firmer rock you could stand on, than on the Lord Jesus Christ. Even when rough storms come and there's 15 feet waves all around you-God is there, and if you stand on Him, there's no need to be afraid.

Bible verse of the week: Joshua 1:9 submitted by Deborah.
Joshua 1:9 "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whitersoever thou goest. "

Saying of the week:

In Christ's boundless and eternal love,
