Chick-fil-a

Calling all Chick-fil-a lovers to:

This Friday, July 11th, Chick-fil-a is having their annual Cow Appreciation Day. If you dress like a cow, you get a free meal. If you would like more information about it, copy and paste this address.

On the website, you can also print out a nose, ears, spots, and a sign that says, Eat Mor Chicken. Or you can dress up on your own. We usually wear black skirts with white shirts and paint our noses black. We have ears that we cut out from construction paper, and we put those on a hairband. (That seems to hold them better.) We paint black dots on our faces, and tape black and white spots to our clothes!! It's so much fun!!!

Creation Corner.
Today's Creation Moment: Hornet Stranglers.

Psalm 118:12a      "They compassed me about like bees...."

We all know that when bees swarm they are in defensive mode. However, not all species of bees have stinging in mind when they swarm.

HornetsWe did a program about an Asian honeybee species that engulfs an invading wasp and cooks it to death. That's what scientists thought Cyprian honeybees were doing when they engulf an invading hornet. However, further study showed that the bees could not kill the attacking hornet with heat. They simply didn't generate enough heat to kill it in the hour they were observed killing a hornet.

Further observation showed that the bees favored encasing the hornet's abdomen. It appeared that they knew that the hornets have an unusual breathing arrangement for insects. The hornet in question actually breathes through holes in its abdomen by contracting the abdomen. The bees appeared to be suffocating the hornet. So researchers placed tiny plastic blocks under a hornet's abdominal plates. This propped the hornet's breathing pores open when the bees tried to smother it. Sure enough, the next time the bees attacked, the hornet survived twice as long.

In His love for His creation, God knew that when sin entered His creation, His creatures would need to know how to defend themselves. So He gave the Cyprian honeybee the knowledge to protect itself against its worst foe..

  2. AMAZING story of how the honey bee protects itself from the 'enemy.' I have noticed that most all creatures that exist, have some form of protecting themselves. The porcupine has it's sharp quills...the turtle, it's built-in home to withdraw into, to hide from it's enemy...some birds have extremely enhanced eyesight, to find food and locate their enemies....lizards can camouflage their skin, to blend in with the environment, thus being invisible to the approaching enemy. This tells me, that God wants to give all a fighting chance to escape from the enemy. We too, as God's 'creatures", have a way of escape, and that is JESUS CHRIST, our Lord and Savior. How awesome is that!! Keep up the good work on your blog, Ashley. I am SO POUD of you!!!
    Love you much,

  3. I loved the "I am so glad that Jesus loves me" blog. And the Romans 8: 32 - 39 scripture.

Thanks for the Forth of July posting, it was good to see the quotes from the Founding Fathers. Our lives are built on the principles of the Bible, and that is really what makes this country work. There are always a few bad apples who try to spoil it. I am very thankful, eternally thankful for our country. Make a joyful noise onto the Lord!!!!!

Great pictures of the woodpeckers. We've heard them around here, but never have had a nest in our yard or even seen a nest. Birds are faithful parents, just a God made them.

Cow appreciation day! What fun! Bees very interesting!

  4. Here are a couple of favorite Bible verses:

He brought me up also out of a horrible put, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. Ps. 40:2

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. Matt. 6:8
