I remember the first time I learned about God's "feminine and masculine qualities" was at a college. I thought God's design of men and women was the coolest thing.
God is neither male nor female. He's a spirit. And since he made humans in his image, he gave males and females specific qualities to create a picture of himself.
💖 In the Bible, God reveals himself with qualities we often see mirrored in women:
~ Nurturing and Compassionate
As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem. ~ Isaiah 66:13
Many times throughout Scripture we see Jesus comparing himself to a hen that gathers her chicks. He's tender, caring, gentle, and empathetic to people.
~ Life-giving
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things. ~ Acts 17:24
God gives and sustains life, and he created women to beautifully mirror him in this way.
~ Wisdom and Intuition
God’s wisdom reflects the deep discernment that women often carry. Read Proverbs. Who does God choose to personify wisdom? A woman. She's described as beautiful, life-giving, and precious like a treasure. She loves, protects, and blesses those who seek her.
(Not that men can't be wise, but we women have this intuition, 6th sense, gut feeling in us that is invaluable.)
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
💛 Then God also reveals himself with qualities we often see mirrored in men:
~Strength and protection
God is our strength.
God is our strength.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. ~ Psalm 46:1
~ Leadership and Responsibility
God doesn't just command - he tenderly leads.
God doesn't just command - he tenderly leads.
Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. ~Isaiah 48:17
~Provision
God provides for all creation.
The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. ~ Psalm 145:15-16
~Faithfulness and Comfort
Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations. ~ Deuteronomy 7:9
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. ~ Psalm 23:4
God remains loyal. He will never leave, never walk away, and never abandon.
Each gender has a specific, important part to play that when put together, displays the nature of God. And it's up to parents to teach their kids accordingly in the ways of the Lord because the world will certainly teach them the opposite.
